Random Tuesdays... Kickball Begins

I haven't been blogging lately because I've been on the opposite side of the world in Australia.  But I am back now and have a lot to share about my adventures down under. But I am going to save that for a later time.  Today, I wanted to focus on why a little bit of randomness in your life is important.

Last night (please keep in mind that I only had 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours... my current ration is up to 7 hours in about 60 hours), we had the kick-off to kickball party at the Bottom Line.  Committed to going, because I knew that if I didn't I would start sleeping on Australian time and never be able to kick the jet lag, I met a few friends at the happy hour. While the beer was free (can't complain about that), I learned (or was reminded of) a few things:
  1. Never act your age - it is important to be young and not be afraid to have a few drinks with random strangers (soon to be good friends) on a Tuesday. I have the rest of my life to be responsible, be home by 5, take care of kids, and be the "boring" couple that I may accuse some of my friends of being (sorry guys). I am a responsible person. I work a lot. I go to school.  But I am allowed to have a wee bit of fun on occasion, otherwise, life will pass me by while I watch reruns of Criminal Minds (what a fabulous show).
  2. N'Sync is not the same as BSB or NKOTB - Bye Bye Bye came on the jukebox.  The person sitting next to me got excited and went to go dance. I too got excited because I said... I have tickets to the concert in June... want to go. Wait, what?!? N'Sync is touring?  Nope, I am the dumbass that confuses Backstreet Boys and N'Sync.  Whoops.  Sorry to get you excited / start a vicious rumor. We can leave the discussion for which boy band is the best for a later day.
  3. Never let someone go unescorted into Krispy Kreme after 10pm - I was on the phone talking to a friend. I was escorting someone home. I wasn't paying attention when they ran into the store.  Next thing I know... I am carrying home a box of donuts (I couldn't trust the person to carry the donuts).  Why a dozen donuts was necessary... I do not know.
  4. Don't be afraid to quickly dispatch of creepy guys - If someone is harassing you and gets to close... do what you need to do to get rid of them. Especially if it is dark outside. I am apparently a weird magnet for creepsters and stalkers - not my favorite thing.
  5. Learn something new every night - I am specifically talking about night, not day.  People are more creative at night and it is just a lot more fun.
  6. Play sports - I enjoy playing kickball because the people are nice, and we all like to blow off some steam. I have found in life that there are sports people and non-sports people... I am a sports person. If I make a comment to a guy... something like... "I can't believe Cam Newton will likely play for the Panthers... that will not be good for him." and he looks at me not knowing what I am talking about... this is an issue (I will even give a guy some leeway so I can explain why this is important).
All of this being said, I am looking forward to kickball season beginning and me being able to blow off some steam on Saturdays.  Game on!
