Small things that make a difference

Yesterday was a rough day. I spent the day notifying colleagues and friends of an unexpected death. After spending hours on the phone consoling people, I went home to go to school.

I wasn't in a good mood; I was emotionally drained; I just wanted a drink and to go to bed.

Fortunately, I put some more concealor under my eyes before I headed to the bus... Figured might as well try to look human.

On the short walk between my house and bus I heard a french accent yell "Madamemoiselle!" I turned to look and he was talking to me.

He asked me if I was from New York? Europe? I said no, I am from the Midwest... Why?

He said I looked very put together, nice, classy and posh. This on a day where I felt anything but classy or posh and very emotionally drained.  Let me tell you, it may sound trite, but it made me smile because I was
having a horrible day and needed someone to say something nice to me (especially in a french accent).

Sometimes it is the little things in life that make a difference.

Next time you see a friend or a stranger, give them a compliment. You never know what a difference it can make.
